One type of GMDSS radio equipment is NAVTEX, an automatic direct-printing telegraph system based on international standards. It broadcasts distress, navigational, and meteorological information, as well as emergency and safety information to ships in areas up to 400 nautical miles from the coast. The compact and economical RR103A NAVTEX receiver automatically provides a print-out of such information.
